With the encouragement and support of his mother, John’s artistic endeavors began at a very young age. Johns interest in Hawaii dates back to 1959, when to John’s excitement, his father who was in the service was transferred to Hawaii—but to John’s dismay the family ended up in Copenhagen, Denmark where John spent the next several years dreaming about Hawaii with romantic mysticism.
Through his paintings, John expresses his love for Hawaii, its people and its culture. "Painting enables me to appreciate life and express my feelings through paintings rather than words. It is an outlet I can plug into, and always feel good after I do it. I feel really blessed to have this in my life." John has accomplished what he has set out to do, if for even one moment, the viewer looks at his paintings and it stops their mind racing from the trials of daily life, and just relax. John paints in varying degree’s of opaque and transparent hues—creating a balance between bright, bold and warmth with cool soothing, to convey comfort and peace. John wants to enhance the viewer's life – not with so much on impact, as with a more subtle approach – using color with objects of interest. John wants to give back to the viewer what he experiences when he is painting – enjoyment and a tranquil feeling of well being. |
